On 28 June 2020, the Directions on the Risk Adjusted Strategy for Tourism Facilities, Services and Products was Gazetted.

The said Directions cover the following tourism sectors:-

  2. Lodges, bed and breakfasts, time-share facilities and resorts and guest houses;
  3. Self-drive Excursions;
  4. Conference and meeting venues; and
  5. Casinos

Restaurants, fast food outlets and coffee shops must keep a daily record of all employees, delivery personnel and patrons and such records must be readily available should it be required. All employees and delivery personnel are to be screened and proper sanitising needs to be observed. All employees further need to be issued with masks to wear as well as hand sanitiser.

Under these Directions patrons will be allowed to sit down and have a meal, but members of the public will not be allowed entry unless they are wearing a face mask, they have sanitised and passed the relevant screening process. It should further be noted that no buffets may be offered to guests and food may only be plated in single portions. It is therefore advisable to reduce the complexity of menus.

Lodges, bed and breakfasts, time-share facilities and resorts and guest houses must keep a daily record of all employees and guests and such records must be readily available should it be required.

Where a business handles customers / guests exceeding 50 per day, special screening stations should be set up at entrances to facilitate ques, screening, and sanitisation.

Rooms need to be deep cleaned between guests and dormitory style bedrooms should only be filled to 50% of capacity. Conference and Meeting Facilities will not be allowed to accommodate more than 50 delegates and social distancing rules need to be adhered to.

Screening and sanitising must further be exercised, and masks worn. Delegates will need to be assigned a specific seat and only individual water and mint condiments will be served to delegates. Casinos will only be allowed to operate at 50% of capacity and proper records need to be kept of all employees and guests. Entry into tourism facilities will be limited to self-drive excursions in a private vehicle.

Owners of the above establishments should in addition to the above ensure that:-

  1. There is no physical contact between persons at their premises;
  2. There is a minimum of one and a half meters between persons;
  3. All health protocols are adhered to at all times;
  4. Where activities such as talking cannot be performed with a face mask, the distance between persons should be increased to two and a half meters.
