Dear BCCEI CEO Members
On the 12 May 2020, the Bargaining Council for the Civil Engineering Industry (BCCEI) communicated to industry members that the council have not received any formal confirmation from the Department of Employment and Labour (DEL) regarding the opening of their offices and resumption of the Disputes and Enforcement services.
Please note that on the 24 May 2020, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the country would move to level 3 of lockdown, therefore certain sectors will be in operation starting from 1 June 2020.
We would like to inform our members that the BCCEI has since issued a circular stating that the employees of the BCCEI will return to work on Monday 1 June 2020 and their offices will be open for visitation by the public on Monday 8 June 2020. However, the council has indicated that their priority is the health and safety of their staff. The public is encouraged to first make an appointment as this will assist the council to comply with the regulations regarding social distancing and gatherings. Furthermore, the business WhatsApp number that can be used is 064 993 3789.
Our members should also take note that the circular further stated the BCCEI would abide by all Regulations and Directives that are issued in terms of section 27(2) of the Disaster Management Act. Therefore, it is only in terms of these Regulations and Directives that the BCCEI may receive visitors, hold meetings or conduct hearings and Members are still advised to avoid unnecessary physical contact where possible.
