Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma has issued Government Gazette Number 43577 on 31st July 2020 in terms of Regulation 27(2) of the Disaster Management Act, 2002 (Act no. 57 of 2002).
The Directive issued addresses amongst other things, amendments made with regards to Movement of Persons (regulation 33), Gathering (regulation 37) and Sporting & leisure ( 39) during the “advanced” Alert Level 3 Lockdown period which include amongst other things the extension of the curfew from 21:00 to 22:00 and opening up of certain sporting activities.
Notably, in terms of regulation 37 sporting activities, inclusive of both professional non-contact and contact sport will be allowed subject to directions issued by the relevant Cabinet member and the attendance of persons only mentioned in sub-regulation (ii) – (iv). International events are, however, still prohibited.
The following places/premises will continue to remain closed to the public save for the exceptions marked in bold (the new additions underlined):
- Sports grounds and fields and swimming pools, except for –
- Training of professional athletes and
- Professional non-contact and contact sports matches as referred in sub-regulation 37(1)(i)
- Hotels, lodges, bed and breakfasts, timeshare facilities and resorts and guest houses, except to the extent that these facilities are required for accommodation by-
- the remaining tourists confined to such facilities;
- persons for work purposes; and
- persons in quarantine or isolation; and;
- persons utilizing such facilities for intra-province leisure purposes
- Tourist attractions will, however, remain closed except for intra-provincial private self-drive excursion activities and guided tours.
